friday inspiration — red writing hood

February 24, 2012

Last night, I went to a “Meet the Author” event at our public library.  The featured local writer, Jeff Abbott, is the author of kajillions of successful suspense and mystery novels, and I loved hearing him talk about his career path with self-deprecating humor.  Though I have only read one of his books, I plan to read both Adrenaline and Panic after hearing him talk about their creation.

On another topic, last week I mentioned trying to set up a link tool for any readers who might want to practice timed writing with me.  Upon further investigation, I realized that: 1) such tools cost money, and 2) other writing blogs are already set up to provide this service — likely more successfully than I could.

So, instead of establishing a virtual prompt writing group, this week I plan to link to a prompt created by the folks at Write On Edge: Where Inspiration Meets Community.  In the next 36 hours (before the link expires), I have to write 300 words on the following prompt:

“It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.”
Mahatma Gandhi

Eeeek.  So not up my alley.  Wish me luck.

Last night, Jeff Abbott said he writes about 3000 words every single day.  I suppose I can manage 300, right?

I hope your weekend is full of new discoveries and old friends.  Thanks, as always, for showing up.
